RU-N is in the process of transitioning from Blackboard to Canvas. Spring 2021 is the last semester that Blackboard will be available for faculty use.  All courses from Summer 2021 forward will be in Canvas.  To assist in this transition, two years’ worth of archived course content has been imported from Blackboard to Canvas for your reference. This automated process will include an exception report which identifies potential items that may need updating or adjustments. The specific semesters' of content are dependent on your school.  Check our blog for the current month's schedule or schedule a one-on-one session with a staff member.

Both Blackboard and Canvas are supported by RU-N's Academic Technology Services (faculty) and RU-N IT (students).  These learning management systems extend the learning environment beyond the physical classroom. They both have many features that facilitate teaching, learning and interaction including:

  • Incorporation of files, graphics, and audio/video clips into course materials
  • Facilitated communication through:
    • Announcements posted in one central location
    • Email messages sent from within Blackboard
    • Discussion boards
    • Desktop web conferencing
  • Assignment management
  • Plagiarism detection
  • Tests and Surveys
  • Online gradebook including rubrics
  • Blogs, wikis, and journals (Blackboard only)
  • Automated integration of the course roster
  • Utilization of the University NetID login
  • Course copying from one semester to the next
