CLJ-392 Classroom Overview
The CLJ-392 ITV/Smart Classroom is a classroom equipped with an ISDN connected V-Tel
Lc-3000 Video-Conferencing system which allows the classroom to connect with similarly
equipped classrooms for an interactive session for classes, meetings and conferences.
It is also equipped to connect with Verizon's IDLS Network.
Verizon's Interactive Distance Learning System (IDLS) is a broadcast network comprised
of schools ranging from K thru 12 and include most Universities and Colleges. This is a
closed loop, subscription only access. One must be a subscriber to be able to interact with the
others on the network.
The equipment installed in the room includes a VCR for playback or for recording. A document camera,
a Networked PC with Internet access, loaded with Microsoft Office 2000 which includes Powerpoint,
Acces, Excel, and Word.
Control to any of the equipment is through the touch screen mounted at the podium.
*Access to the classroom is currently limited to trained Faculty & Staff.
How to Use the Room For Video-conferencing (ITV) activities
* Access to the room is
issued only to trained faculty and staff who has a regularly scheduled class.
1. Turn on the system
by touching the touch panel twice. Once to activate the panel (See: Welcome Screen) and the second
time to turn the system on. This turns on the front projection screen & TV screens along with all it's
support equipment.
2. On the touch panel display under "Mode of Operation", select your mode of operation.
IDLS for simultaneously interacting with up to 3 IDLS sites. IDLS + Codec, for simultaneously
interacting with a
ISDN connected site and up to 2 IDLS sites. See Main Menu Screen Shot.
3. For IDLS: See Tools Down Screen Shots
* Press the tools button.
* Press the DVT button.
On the next screen. See DVT Screen Shots
* Press DVT 1
* Power
Then, using the keypad, key in the assigned channel of the site you want to connect with.
Use the volume up & down arrows to adjust the incoming audio levels.
3. Put on the wireless microphone/follow-me camera tracking device around your neck. Clip the
transmitter on your belt or carry it in your pocket. Slide the two switches to the on position to turn
on the device.
4. Ensure the classroom mics are on. On the touch Panel display, right bar, the Mics Icon button
should be displayed without a red "X" across it.
For ISDN:
* On the touch panel display next to the "Mode of Operation" press the "Go to Codec" button.
The display will change to the V-tel dial up menu where your remote site dial-in number will be
programmed into. Touch the appropriate button for your remote site to connect. Otherwise use the
keypad to manually input your remote site's ISDN access number.
6. When the remote site is/are connected you will see them on both front and rear screens. Insure
that your audio levels are ok. On the touch Panel display, right bar, touch the arrow up, or down
buttons to raise or lower the incoming audio from the remote sites.
7. During your video-conference you may use any of the devices in the podium to express your ideas.
You may:
Play a video tape,
Display an overhead slide or objects with the graphics camera
Play CD-music through the PC
Display a Powerpoint presentation or internet web content from the pc.
Record you session for future viewing, lectures or content development.
8. Remember to disconnect the call and shutdown the system when your session is over. To disconnect
your call press the disconnect button on the V-tel controls menu, and System Off followed by "OK"
to shutdown the system.
How to use the classroom as a smart classroom
1. Turn on the system by touching the touch
panel twice. Once to activate the panel and the second time to turn the system on. This turns on the front
and rear TV screens along with all it's support equipment.
2. On the touch panel display under "Mode of
Operation", touch the "AV" button. Then select any of the Sources on the left bar of the touch panel display
to activate the selected mode. (ie; PC)
3. During your class you may use any of the devices in the podium
to express your ideas. You may:
Play a video tape,
Display an overhead slide or objects with the graphics camera
Play music CD through the PC
Display Powerpoint presentations or internet web content from the PC.
Record your session for future viewing, lectures or content development.
4. Remember to shutdown the system when your session is over. On the touch panel display bottom
bar, touch the "System Off" button followed by OK to acknowledge system shutdown. This will
shutdown the system. See System OFF screen shot
Using the various classroom devices.
1. PC (A) - The Classroom PC is located in the black
cabinet. Select its' video to be displayed by touching the PC button on the touch panel display.
2. Laptop (B) -To use your own laptop, connect the provided VGA cable to the VGA output port of
your Laptop. Then, touch the PC button which is midway on the left menu bar labeled Sources, on
the touch panel display.
3. VCR - To display video using the VCR insert your videocassette into the Playback VCR in the bottom
right cabinet of the podium. Select VCR, on the display panel. Press Play on the display panel. Adjust the
audio volume levels using the volume buttons on the right side of the display panel.
To record insert your video
tape in the VCR and press the record button. It will record all of the audio in the room and the video displayed
on the large monitors.
4. Graphics Camera - to use the graphics camera, also referred to as a digitizer or, document camera.
Power the unit on by pressing the on switch at the left rear of the unit. Simply place your document,
transparency or object on top of the unit.
Select Graphics Camera from the display panel. Focus, Zoom in/out functions, can be controlled from
the unit itself. One can also select B/W, Color or, Negative display mode through switch settings on the
unit itself. The Base lamp can be turned on at the unit front switches.

Main Menu

DVT Screen
The DVT's (Digital Video Tuners) -
are used to tune in to the IDLS Video Channels of
the remote IDLS sites involved with your Class or
Video-conference. This screen includes individual
DVT's channel selection, Volume, & Mute control.

The Student Camera
The Student Camera has the function of capturing the
video image of the class and individual students, for
transmission to the remote sites and displayed on the
projection screen. Preset at a wide class overview shot,
it accepts camera movement commands from the control
panel.

Zoom In/Out - Zooms the picture In or Out
Up, Down, Left, Right Arrow Buttons - manual pan, tilt camera control.
Save - the newly selected settings to be stored into one of the 4 presets.

Student Camera Manual Presets
These Camera Presets are setup for a close up shot
of the students at their seats. They are set in accordance
with the classroom seating arrangement so that the
instructor can easily direct the camera to the student on
the mic. Control buttons to pan, tilt, zoom in, and out are
included to fine tune the shot.

Presenter Camera
The Presenter Camera has the sole function of capturing
the video image of the presenter/instructor for transmission
to the remote sites.

Preset 1 - 4 - 4 User selectable camera presets set with different presenter camera shots within the
room.
Zoom - Zooms the picture In or Out
Up, Down, Left, Right Arrow Buttons - moves the camera manually up , down, left or right.
Save - allows the newly selected settings to be stored into one of the 4 presets.

Quad
Selected from the "Tools" Drop Down Menu, it is used to
select the display mode for the local and remote video.
"Restore Quad" to display the local and remote videos
as a Quad on the Projection Screen with allowance to
select each individual Quadrant to be displayed alone
on the full screen and then back gain to a Quad display.

VCR Control Screen
VCR - Power, Play, Stop, Rewind, Forward, Pause &
Record Controls.
VCR audio volume is controlled through the "Program
Volume" control buttons on the right side of the touch
panel.

Codec Screen - From the "Main Screen" menu, through
the "Go to Codec" button, this Screen is where ISDN
Video-Conference calls are made from. Connection
information to sites regularly connected with are stored
under the "Presets" buttons for quick one button dialing.
Sites not stored in the "Presets" can be dialed manually by
first selecting the desired connection rate from the "Speed
Selections" then keying in the remote site number. When
ready, press the Dial button to make the call.
Press disconnect to end the session.

The Codec Control Screen button details:
|
Presets This button group, contains pre-programmed numbers for selected remote sites.
Speed Selection these buttons allow the selection of desired video-conference transmission rate.
PIP toggles the Picture In Picture mode to On or Off .
PIP Swap Selects the displayed video in the PIP screen. Remote or Local video.
Edit Preset Labels allows the user to edit the preset button labels for easier site identification.
Number Pad is used to manually dial a remote sites access number to establish a video conference. *
Backspace moves the cursor back one space.
Clear clears the numbers keyed in the current position
Clear 1&2 clears the numbers keyed in 1st and 2nd position
Store allows the user to store the number into one of the preset locations.
Dial dials the keyed number.
Disconnect disconnects the video-conference session.
Conference Volume Down/Up raises or lowers the audio levels within the room.
Exit Exits the current page.
